As the major US stock indices have continued to reach new record highs in recent years, many commentators and market participants have discussed similarities between today and the early 1970s stock market bubble known as the Nifty Fifty. However, few people either remember the market of that period or have studied it in any detail. This webinar is based on a careful study of historical sources to tell the true story behind the Nifty Fifty stocks: how they rose, why they fell, and what lessons the bubble might hold for investors today. Simon will be presenting work done jointly with Joseph von Zanten.
