Z/Yen helps organisations make better choices - our clients consider us a commercial think-tank that spots, solves and acts. Our name combines Zen and Yen - “a philosophical desire to succeed” - in a ratio, recognising that all decisions are trade-offs. Z/Yen’s mission is to be the foremost risk/reward management firm.

Risk/reward management underpins Z/Yen’s belief that good decisions must:

• enhance reward: decisions on opportunities and new strategies;
• control risk: decisions about eliminating, avoiding, mitigating or pooling risks;
• reduce volatility: decisions that increase certainty or consistency of performance.

Z/Yen strives to balance risk and reward in all its dealings. A proper balance of risk and reward is achieved when all participants in a venture share proportionately in the potential and realised gains and losses. Our principles are adhered to in all our dealings, but the sine qua non remains "investing in clients". Clients of Z/Yen should be assured of service which delivers enhanced performance and value for money - a service which is effective (on scope), efficient (rewards outweigh risks), economic (without waste) and innovative (appropriately challenging).

In 2007 Z/Yen and a group of interested and motivated individuals launched the Long Finance initiative. The aim is to promote discussion, research and education about finance and starts with the question: "When would we know our financial system is working?"
