ExtZy
Exchange Trading Z/Yen
The Market of Markets

ExtZy is a stock exchange game that turns parts
of the internet into shares and pays dividends based on share popularity. Game
players buy and sell shares in Zyentities (analogous to companies) with each
other. ExtZy uses a fantasy currency, Zoints (Z¤). Players pay for shares in
Zoints and receive Zoints as Zividends each time the Zancqua (analogous to the
central bank) in ExtZy distributes them.
The overall objective of the game is for players to maximise their Zoints.
Players will be able to value their portfolios at any time, based on the latest
Zyentity prices. Players can redeem Zoints for prizes. ExtZy is like an ongoing
game of Monopoly where the winners have the opportunity to convert their gains
into prizes.
ExtZy engages, entertains and educates people as they surf, without exposing
them to the risk of real losses. In the process, players learn about:
-
finance and investment in a fantasy share
environment;
-
the importance of sentiment and popularity in
valuing shares and investments;
-
what the ExtZy community thinks is worth
tracking;
-
the relative popularity of portions of the
web;
-
what is likely to become more popular, future
perceived popularity as measured by the price/earnings ratio, i.e. the
number of Zoints a share costs divided by the dividends it pays
ExtZy also helps to promote web-sites and
internet businesses. Any web-site can apply to Sponsor an “IPO” (initial public
offering) of their site or portions of their site as Zyentities. Zyentities are
organised into “leaderboards” or “sectors”. Sponsors may wish to encourage
players to visit their site by making it more attractive, interesting, or giving
special offers (e.g., discounts for Zoints).
Four sector leaderboards are under development:
-
Shaping Tomorrow’s GlobeWatch: which tracks
the interest of futurologists in countries of the world;
-
site-tZy (www.site-tzy.com):
which lists sites of interest to ExtZy players (e.g. specialist sites such
as Thames Sailing Barge Match);
-
lecture-tZy (www.lecture-tzy.com):
which lists lectures, past and future, of interest to ExtZy players (e.g.
Gresham College);
-
report-tZy (www.report-tzy.com):
which lists reports of interest to ExtZy players (e.g. by Z/Yen Group or The
London Accord).
Players who have bought shares in “Zyentities”
know that a “hit” on the relevant web-pages will increase Zividends. This will
encourage player “shareholders” to visit and encourage friends to visit. Players
and sponsors can see data about the ‘hits’ on Zyentities.
Trading will initially be simple buying and selling. Buying and selling shares
will be via a real trading engine with an order matching system linked to a
database that will store players’ portfolio data.
It is envisaged that as the game grows in popularity, other financial products
will be simulated, including limit orders, basket buys and sells and
potentially, options and futures on “Zyentities”.

| Capital |
Each player is given a credit line of Z¤ 10,000 free from ExtZy’s Zancqua. Prizes can only be redeemed from a positive net balance of
credit and shares. |
| Players |
People who (singly or in syndicates) play ExtZy and win prizes. |
| PopAlg |
The popularity algorithm which allocates Zividends. The initial
PopAlg has been set as “(unique hits X unique IDs) / square-root (hits X
unique IDs)”. Each Zyentity is scored for the past period using this
algorithm. The Zancqua distributes Zoints to each Zyentity as a % of the
total points it scored. This algorithm favours sites that combine depth
of interest with wide appeal. |
| Prizes |
Players based in the United Kingdom can redeem Zoints for prizes by
applying against the current prize catalogue. |
| Share |
When introduced to the game, each Zyentity will issue a number of
shares to be bought or sold by the Players |
| Sponsor |
An organisation that created a Zyentity by allowing pages from its
website(s) to be “tracked”. |
| Tracking |
Placing a token on a webpage that permits the web page to be
tracked. When a person views the webpage it registers a “hit” at ExtZy
which is used to calculate Zividends. |
| Zancqua |
ExtZy’s central bank. Zancqua regularly (initially weekly) pays out
Zoints as Zividends to players based on the popularity algorithm (PopAlg). |
| Zividend |
A zividend will be calculated using an algorithm that takes into
account the number of people hitting a sponsor’s site and the number of
hits. Zividends will be paid to all holders of a Zyentity Shares in
proportion to their shareholdings |
| Zoints |
The notional currency of the game, Z¤. Zoints are used to buy or
sell Zyentities, to receive Zividend payments and to claim prizes. |
| Zyentity |
An entity (company) that players buy and sell – these can be
websites, portions of websites, multiple websites or pages scattered
across the internet. A single page or group of tracked pages forms a
Zyentity. All that matters is that the Zyentity’s pages can be
“tracked”. |
