Evidence of Worth for Not-For-Profit OrganisationsA facilitated seminar led by Z/YenPresented in association with HSBC Investment ManagementFriday 1 March 2002
You
and your peers in not-for-profit organisations face ever-increasing pressure to
demonstrate the value of your work. Whether
by donors, trustees, government or the general public, you are more and more
being asked to prove your worth. This
is easier said than done, however. Traditional
financial measurement systems struggle to cope with the complexities of
measuring the often intangible outcomes from charitable work.
All too often therefore, attempts to measure “worth” or “value
added” fall by the wayside.
We
know, from working with our own clients, just how big this challenge is for you.
That’s why we have put together a seminar for Chief Executives and
senior directors of not-for-profit organisations to address your key issues,
including:
¨
selecting appropriate outcomes and measures from your
work;
¨
balancing top down and bottom up approaches to
measuring evidence of worth;
¨
choosing the right measurement tools for not-for-profit
organisations;
¨
communicating evidence of worth to stakeholders
(service users, funders, staff, partners etc);
¨
realigning your organisational strategy to reflect
emphasis on evidence of worth.
Attendance
will be strictly limited to no more than 30 people ensuring each person will
contribute to and learn from the discussion and debate.
The full seminar programme is attached.
The seminar content has been developed not only in response to the work
we have been doing with a variety of not-for-profit organisations, but also
following extensive research with Chief Executives and senior representatives
from a variety of leading not-for-profit organisations, including:
Mencap
* RNIB * Oxfam * Diabetes UK * RNID
* NSPCC
The
aim of the seminar is to provide a forum for key players in the sector to share
areas of concern, identify best practice and begin to think about future steps.
In addition to some real case studies, we will be reporting back on the
research we have done in this area and providing opportunities for facilitated
discussion groups to focus on individual areas of interest.
The
seminar will include two case study presentations. Ian Sparks, Chief Executive of the Children’s Society, along
with Nigel Hinks will talk about
the Social Work Performance Measurement Initiative (the MART Initiative),
enabling social work projects to develop and track their own outcome
measurements. The Marine
Stewardship Council will provide a study of their innovative approaches to
providing evidence of worth from their work on environmental sustainability. These practical case studies will be of interest to any
organisation seeking to develop outcome measures in their organisation.
The
seminar is presented in association with HSBC Investment Management, one of the
UK's leading managers of not-for-profit funds.
With over £1.6 billion managed on behalf of charitable clients, HSBC
recognise the importance of evidence of worth to the whole sector and are
delighted to support this innovative seminar and host the event at HSBC in
Poultry.
